Becoming Benno follows Ben Voss’s comic and moving journey as a hopeful immigrant, with his wife and child, after being detained at Sydney Airport. Inspired by true events and superbly performed by Ben, this one-man show unpacks identity, family, being a South African, and what it takes to start a new life elsewhere. Hailed as one of the top five theatre shows at Adelaide Festival, it’s sharp, funny and deeply human. Directed by Michael Richard with dramaturgy by John van de Ruit.
